5 Views That You Can Only Find in the Smokies During Fall

When we say views that can only be found during fall, we mean the atmosphere! You may be able to look out from Clingmans Dome in the spring, summer or winter and see the same mountains, but are they really the same? During the spring the mountains are green with flowers blooming throughout. During the summer the mountains are green as can be and the sun is shining! Winter leaves the Smokies bare, yet covered with snow, creating a magical picture. However, there is just something about fall views that don’t compare to any other season in the Smokies.

  1. Gatlinburg Cabins

Our Gatlinburg cabin rentals are beautiful no matter what season it is! However, you will not find a view any other time of the year like you will during the fall. Many of our cabins offer picturesque views of the Smokies right from the porch. During the fall months, this view will transform to a colorful palette of mountains that represent the current season. From bright red, to dull orange, yellow and brown, you will find an array of colors painted throughout. Imagine waking up to that view without having to hike a mountain! Sometimes it almost seems too good to be true. Don’t miss out on this once a year view that will leave your jaw open!

  1. Downtown Gatlinburg

Us locals take the fall season very seriously! In addition to the numerous festivals being held, we make it our mission to welcome fall to the area in a big way. Pumpkins, squashes, hay bales, scarecrows and more decorate the streets of downtown Gatlinburg throughout the season. This spectacular view can ONLY be found during the months of September-November. You won’t want to miss the beautiful fall display throughout downtown Gatlinburg!

  1. Clingmans Dome

Clingmans Dome is known as one of the best views found in the Smokies! On a clear day, it is said that you can see up to 100 miles into the distance! Now close your eyes and imagine a crisp October afternoon. The sky is clear, and you are staring into miles of leaves changing colors right before your eyes. You can see a colorful mountain range like you have never seen it before. Now open your eyes! You’re looking at a computer screen, not nearly as good as what we were imagining. Be sure to make the trip to Clingmans Dome on your fall visit to the Smokies. While a picture will never truly do a view justice, bring your camera to document the beauty.

  1. Cades Cove

While visitors usually flock to Cades Cove during the spring and summer months for a picnic, why not visit the area during the fall? The temperatures are cooling down; the trees are colorful, and wildlife are out and about. Have you ever visited the churches of Cades Cove? The white church against the colorful autumn scenery is a view unlike any other. Take a tour of Cades Cove and learn about the history of the area. As we said, bring your camera! This view is so magical you will want to savor the moment forever!

  1. Scenic Drive Through the National Park

This view is unique for a few reasons. One, it is not a stagnant view. It is ever changing and moving as you go. From the car, you will see miles and miles of the fall beauty that lives in the Smokies. Take a scenic drive through the National Park and enjoy the views from the comfort of your car. Who doesn't love a leisurely drive through the mountains on a fall afternoon?
