Make it a Real Family Vacation: Bring Your Dog with You to Gatlinburg

dog_1.jpgVacations are so exciting; looking forward to them is almost as much fun as the actual trip itself! There's so much to do when you get ready to take a trip. Many visitors to Gatlinburg return every year and a number of them take advantage of a great benefit that's available -- pet friendly cabin rentals. Especially if you live within reasonable driving distance of Gatlinburg, bringing your dog along can open up a whole new way to enjoy your vacation.

Your Pet Doesn’t Have to Stay Behind

Often when people plan a trip one of the important points on their list is to find a reliable caretaker for their dog(s). Some people ask a trusted relative or friend to care for animals, others arrange for them to stay at a boarding facility or pet resort. While all of these options offer positive elements, traveling with your dog can eliminate a lot of hassles and allow you and your pet to feel at ease. Some dogs suffer from separation anxiety and bringing them with you can keep them from going through these issues. Even if a dog does well when boarded, the opportunity to keep the family together, even on vacation, is often desirable.

If you've never considered traveling with your dog before, there are many advantages to doing so, especially in Gatlinburg. With all the hiking opportunities here, walking with your dog is sure to not only please you, it will provide brand new experiences your dog will love. In addition to all the sights and smells near your cabin, there are some areas in Great Smoky Mountains National Park where you can take your dog, and the park is just outside Gatlinburg. When planning to bring your dog to the park, please note these rules from the park website:

'Dogs are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads, but must be kept on a leash at all times. The leash must not exceed 6 feet in length. Dogs are only allowed on two short walking paths—the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail (this trail is in NC). Pets are not allowed on any other park trails. The Gatlinburg Trail is a lot of fun and offers 1.9 miles each way from the Sugarlands Visitors Center to outside town. You will get to see some old homesteads, and view the river as you walk through the forest. This is a path that's also a favorite of bicyclists and joggers.

In addition to seeing all the new sights and following his or her nose to all the new smells, Gatlinburg is a great place for dogs to have fun in the water too! You can take your dog boating or fishing with you or just relax at your waterfront cabin and let your dog jump in for a quick swim right from your front door!

Gatlinburg cabins are famous for having multiple decks, lofts and interesting spaces that pets find irresistible. One of the best features that many Gatlinburg cabins offer is their comfortable beds, which are just waiting for your dog to jump on and find a comfy place to sleep!
