Travel Timeouts: Newfound Gap

Possessing a rich history and amazing views, Newfound Gap remains a popular attraction throughout the year. It is the lowest mountain pass through the Great Smoky Mountains, taking the place of the previously used pass through the mountains, Indian Gap. Historically, Newfound Gap is associated with the Rockefeller Memorial, the site of President Franklin D. Rockefeller’s dedication of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1940. At  5,048 ft in elevation, Newfound Gap provides great views of the Smokies and is also relatively cool during the year, receiving significant snowfall.File:Clingmans-dome-newfound-gap-tnnc1.jpg
