The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains region is undeniable and for sunset lovers, it’s hard to beat the unobstructed, breathtaking views that the Smoky Mountains offer.  Gatlinburg cabins provide the ideal home base for your next trip to the Smokies and many of the cabins in Gatlinburg provide stunning views of the mountains.  Take Point of View (pictured above) as an example.  Can you imagine sitting on your deck, enjoying a romantic dinner while watching the sun set over the mountains?  We can!  But why only see it from one setting when you can see it from many different perspectives?

One of the great advantages of Gatlinburg cabins is their proximity to a handful of charming scenic overlooks.

Newfound Gap

Newfound Gap is a popular overlook at a great location elevated at about 5,000 ft. To get there, travel along Newfound Gap Road, which provides a wonderful opportunity for a leisurely drive through the mountains, spanning the entire length of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The road supplies multiple spots to park the car and gaze at the beautiful surroundings on your way to Newfound Gap. The 33-mile drive takes about an hour, but you’ll want to take your time.  Leave early enough to give yourself plenty of time to wander before sunset. Booking one of the secluded cabins in Gatlinburg close to River Road will put you in good proximity to Newfound Gap Road.

Morton’s Overlook

On the way to Newfound Gap you’ll come across another great viewing spot called Morton’s Overlook.  For an unsurpassed look at the sunset, Morton’s Overlook gives you one of the best direct views of the sun.  The soaring mountains are beautiful in and of themselves, but the remarkable colors of the setting sun highlighting the peaks and valleys is really a sight to behold.  Many of the cabins in Gatlinburg come with full kitchens, so you can swing by the fridge, pack a picnic and head off to Morton’s Overlook to experience the magic of the shifting sunlight as it illuminates various sections of the landscape.

Clingmans Dome

Clingmans Dome, another stop off Newfound Gap Road, sits at 6,600 feet, making it the highest point in the park.  If you’re feeling adventurous, park the car and trek the half- mile journey to the observation tower for a panoramic view.  Or, if you just want to cuddle up in the parking lot, you can also get some fantastic views from there.

Gatlinburg Space Needle

For a 360-degree feast for the eyes, visit the Space Needle’s observation deck.  After a day of strolling on the winding streets of downtown Gatlinburg, get a bird’s eye view of the quaint town, nestled between majestic mountains with the blazing colors of the sunset as a stunning backdrop.  As the sky darkens, the lights below look magical, and you’ll feel as if you’re suddenly gazing down on a fairytale village.
