Diamond Travel Tips: Finding Free Parking in Gatlinburg!

Welcome to the Smokies! Each month, Diamond Rentals will feature some of the best travel tips and secrets to help you plan your Smoky Mountain vacation and get around town in the best possible way.

Diamond Travel Tip #1: Free Parking in Gatlinburg!

The downtown Parkway in Gatlinburg, also called “The Strip” is a long stretch of road that begins at light number one in Gatlinburg and extends into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Parking is not permitted on the Strip past 9:00 a.m. except during winter months, but various parking lots offer a day pass for a nominal fee. To find free parking in Gatlinburg, try locating a spot on River Road, which runs parallel to the Strip. Parking is free, but spots fill quickly, so snag one whenever you can.

Diamond Travel Tip #2: Grab a Road Map and Explore the Smokies!

Here's another great trip for first time travelers or Smoky Mountain veterans alike! The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides mostly accurate data by pinpointing your location and transferring that data to a GPS receiver. In the Great Smoky Mountains, however, this technology is notoriously inaccurate. If you plan to explore uncharted territory in the Smokies, a better bet would be a road map or hiking map of the National Park — sold at most fuel stations and visitor centers.
